1990 - Tempo AKA Heather Tucker

Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld created Tempo, first appearing in New Mutants #86 (February 1990). She was introduced as a founding member of the MLF, a terrorist organization led by Stryfe, a clone of Cable. The MLF fought for mutant rights using violent methods, such as attacking government facilities, kidnapping officials, and destroying clinics testing mutant genes. Tempo was one of the team’s most loyal and reliable members, using her time-bending powers to slow down or speed up her enemies or allies. She also had the ability to fly by levitating herself.

However, Tempo was not entirely comfortable with the MLF’s actions. She secretly tipped off X-Factor about the MLF’s plan to blow up the Tucker Clinic, where pregnant mothers could have prenatal DNA testing to see whether or not they would have mutant babies. The clinic was named after Dr. Tucker, who was killed in the explosion. It is hinted that Tempo may have been his daughter or at least related to him somehow.

Tempo was among the few MLF members who questioned Stryfe’s motives and methods. She was shocked when Stryfe revealed himself as Cable’s clone and tried to kill him. She was also disturbed by Stryfe’s plan to unleash the Legacy Virus, a deadly plague that targeted mutants, on the world. Tempo was captured along with the rest of the MLF by the combined forces of X-Men, X-Factor, and X-Force.

Tempo later escaped prison when a new leader named Reignfire reformed the MLF. Reignfire was a mysterious figure who claimed to be a future version of Sunspot, one of the New Mutants. He recruited new members like Locus and Moonstar and gave Tempo and her teammates a mission to kill Henry Peter Gyrich, an anti-mutant government agent. Tempo intervened to save Gyrich from being killed by Feral, another former New Mutant who had joined the MLF. Tempo was then exiled from the MLF by Reignfire, who accused her of being a traitor.

Tempo had nowhere to go after leaving the MLF. Cable offered her a chance to join X-Force, but she declined. She decided to go to college and put aside her super-powered lifestyle for a while. She wanted to live an everyday life and pursue her education.

Tempo resurfaced during Operation: Zero Tolerance, a government-sponsored program that hunted down mutants with robotic agents called Prime Sentinels. She rejoined the MLF briefly to fight against the Prime Sentinels but was captured again.

Tempo survived the M-Day event when most mutants lost their powers due to Scarlet Witch’s reality-warping spell. She then became a member of the Acolytes, a group of mutant extremists who followed Magneto’s ideology. The Acolytes clashed with the X-Men several times over various issues, such as mutant refugees, mutant registration, and mutant worship.

Tempo eventually left the Acolytes and joined Utopia, an island nation established by Cyclops for mutants. She worked alongside the X-Men and other mutants to protect their people from threats. She also participated in the Age of X event, where she was transformed into a soldier of Fortress X, an alternate reality where mutants were constantly under siege by humans.

Tempo was fatally wounded while battling humans in Fortress X, but before she died, Legacy absorbed her memories and learned about her life. Legacy then used Tempo’s memories to help undo the Age of X reality and restore everyone’s memories.

Tempo was resurrected by the Five on Krakoa, the new mutant homeland created by Xavier and his allies. She joined Kitty Pryde’s Marauders team as their chronokinetic specialist. She helped them smuggle mutants out of hostile countries and into Krakoa. She also had a brief relationship with another mutant named Bouncer (Renata Da Lima), but they broke up.

Tempo is one of the most underrated and underused characters in Marvel comics. Depending on her choices and circumstances, she has a lot of potential as a hero or a villain. She has a powerful and versatile ability that can affect anyone or anything around her. She can fly at subsonic speeds and resist telepathic probes with her helmet.

Tempo is a complex and conflicted character involved in many important events and storylines in X-Men history. She has been a member of several teams, such as the MLF, the Acolytes, the X-Men, and the Marauders. She has also interacted with many prominent characters, such as Stryfe, Cable, Magneto, Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, and Bishop.
