1973 - Mister Miracle AKA Shilo Norman

Mister Miracle Shio Norman debut appearance

Shilo Norman was born in Metropolis’ Suicide Slum, a poor and crime-ridden neighborhood. His mother abandoned him as an infant, and he grew up in an abusive orphanage. He ran away from the orphanage and ended up on the streets, where he met Thaddeus Brown, the original Mister Miracle . Brown was a famous escape artist who had learned his skills from the New Gods of New Genesis, a race of cosmic beings. Brown took Shilo under his wing and taught him the secrets of escape artistry. Shilo became Brown’s assistant and helped him perform his stunts.

However, Brown’s life was cut short by a mobster named Steel Hand, who killed him for refusing to work for him. Shilo witnessed Brown’s murder and vowed to avenge him. He teamed up with Scott Free, Brown’s protege and the second Mister Miracle. Scott Free was actually a New God himself, the son of Highfather, the leader of New Genesis. He had escaped from Apokolips, the hellish planet ruled by Darkseid, the enemy of New Genesis. Scott Free and Shilo Norman tracked down Steel Hand and brought him to justice. Scott Free then adopted Shilo as his ward and continued to train him as an escape artist.

Shilo also learned that he had an older brother named Aaron, who was a policeman in Metropolis. Shilo tried to reconnect with him, but their relationship was short-lived. Aaron was killed by a gang member while on duty. Shilo was devastated by his brother’s death and attempted to get revenge, but Scott Free and his wife Barda stopped him from doing anything rash.

Shilo went on to study physics and comparative philosophy at NYU, and even had a girlfriend named Fiona Leeway. He also briefly stood in for Scott Free as the third Mister Miracle when Scott Free retired from superheroics . Shilo used his skills and knowledge to become the security chief at the Slab, a prison facility for super-villains located in Antarctica. He was instrumental in stopping the Last Laugh riots, a mass breakout orchestrated by the Joker. He was promoted to warden of the Slab after the riots.

Shilo then decided to go public as a celebrity escape artist called Mister Miracle. He gained fame and fortune, but also began to suffer from anxiety and depression. His stunts became more dangerous and suicidal, culminating in his attempt to escape from an artificially-generated black hole. Inside the black hole, Shilo encountered Metron, another New God who was the master of time and space. Metron told Shilo that he was part of a prophecy that involved a war in heaven and that he had to save the world from Darkseid.

Shilo returned to the real world, where he found himself in a fictional version of New York where the New Gods were trapped in human bodies after a war in heaven that Darkseid had won. Darkseid had become a powerful crime lord who used the Anti-Life Equation, a formula that could control minds, to enslave people. The other New Gods had become homeless and vagrants who had forgotten their true identities. Shilo fought against Darkseid and his minions, who included Granny Goodness and her Female Furies, disguised as therapists and clubbers. He also met Orion, another son of Darkseid who had rebelled against him, disguised as a biker. Shilo tried to awaken the other New Gods and restore their memories with the help of Motherboxxx, a sentient computer that could communicate with him.

Shilo eventually faced Darkseid himself and was exposed to the Anti-Life Equation. However, he managed to resist its effects thanks to Metron’s intervention. He realized that he had been chosen as the Avatar of Freedom, a being who could embody the concept of free will and oppose Darkseid’s tyranny. He used his skills as an escape artist to free himself from Darkseid’s grasp and liberate the other New Gods from their human forms. He then joined forces with them to defeat Darkseid once and for all.

Shilo Norman’s story did not end there. He later participated in Final Crisis, another cosmic event that involved Darkseid’s return and his attempt to conquer the multiverse. Shilo Norman was one of the heroes who resisted Darkseid’s invasion and helped to stop him. He also became a member of the Seven Soldiers of Victory, a team of heroes who fought against the Sheeda, a race of time-traveling invaders who wanted to destroy humanity.

Shilo Norman is one of the most fascinating and underrated characters in DC comics. He is not only a master of escape artistry, but also a hero who has faced cosmic threats and saved the world multiple times. He has a rich and complex family history that connects him to the New Gods, one of the most powerful and influential races in the DC universe. He has also appeared in other media, such as the animated series Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice . He is a character who deserves more recognition and appreciation from fans and creators alike.
