1975 - Madam Slay

1975 Madam Slay debut

Madam Slay made her first appearance in Jungle Action Vol. 2 #18 (August 1975), created by writer Don McGregor and artist Billy Graham. She was introduced as a lover and ally of Erik Killmonger, the archenemy of the Black Panther and the usurper of the throne of Wakanda. Madam Slay had the ability to command leopards, and was using them to slaughter leopard hunters in the jungles of Wakanda. She captured the Black Panther when he and his friend W’Kabi came to investigate the killings, but he managed to escape and fight her off with the help of W’Kabi .

Madam Slay did not appear again until Iron Man Annual #5 (1982), where it was revealed that she had preserved Killmonger’s body with secret herbs after his apparent death at the hands of the Black Panther. She was contacted by the Mandarin, who used his rings to amplify the Resurrection Altar and restore Killmonger to life. Madam Slay rejoined Killmonger in his quest to kill the Black Panther and return Wakanda to its ancient ways. She kidnapped Jim Rhodes, who was visiting Wakanda with Tony Stark, and tried to frame him and Stark for the murder of the Black Panther, who had faked his death using a Life Model Decoy. The Black Panther returned and exposed Killmonger’s plot, and fought him until the Mandarin recalled his ring, causing Killmonger to revert to an inanimate skeleton .

Madam Slay has not appeared in any other comic books since then, making her a rather obscure and forgotten character in the Marvel universe. However, she has made some appearances in other media, such as video games and movies. She was featured as a boss character in the 2006 video game Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, voiced by Nika Futterman. She was also mentioned in the 2018 movie Black Panther, where Killmonger had a tattoo of a leopard on his chest, which was a tribute to Madam Slay .

Madam Slay is a fascinating character who deserves more attention and exploration. She is one of the few female villains in the Black Panther’s rogues gallery, and one of the few characters who can match his physical prowess and intelligence. She is also a complex character who has a deep love for Killmonger and Wakanda, but also a ruthless streak that makes her willing to kill anyone who stands in her way. She is a formidable foe for the Black Panther, and a potential ally for anyone who shares her vision of restoring Wakanda to its glory.
