1968 - August Durant AKA Mockingbird

August Durant, also known as Mockingbird. He was a founding member of the Suicide Squad, a covert team of operatives who undertook dangerous missions for the U.S. government in exchange for reduced sentences or other benefits. Durant was a former Air Force colonel who specialized in espionage and counterintelligence. He was recruited by Amanda Waller, the director of Task Force X, to join the Suicide Squad and act as her second-in-command and liaison with the other members. Durant was loyal to Waller and often defended her decisions, even when they clashed with his own morals or ethics. He also had a romantic relationship with another Suicide Squad member, Karin Grace, a nurse and medic.

Durant’s codename, Mockingbird, came from his ability to mimic any voice or sound he heard, which he used for infiltration and deception. He also wore a mask that could change its appearance to match any face he had seen, making him a master of disguise. Durant was skilled in hand-to-hand combat and firearms, and carried a variety of weapons and gadgets on his missions. He was also fluent in several languages and had a photographic memory.

Durant’s career as Mockingbird ended tragically when he sacrificed himself to save his teammates during a mission in Cambodia. He detonated a bomb that destroyed a bridge and prevented the enemy forces from pursuing them, but also killed himself in the process. His death deeply affected Waller and Grace, who mourned him for years. Durant’s legacy as Mockingbird lived on, however, as Waller used his codename and mask to manipulate other Suicide Squad members into following her orders, pretending to be their mysterious benefactor.
