Storm was created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum and first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975). She was part of a new team of X-Men that Professor Xavier recruited to rescue the original team from the living island Krakoa. She was given the codename Storm because of her ability to manipulate the weather and atmosphere.
– Storm is descended from a long line of African witch-priestesses with white hair, blue eyes, and magic powers. Her mother, N’Dare, was a princess of a tribe in Kenya, and her father, David Munroe, was an American photojournalist. Storm was born in Harlem, New York City, but moved to Cairo, Egypt, when she was six months old.
– Storm became an orphan at age five when her parents were killed by a plane crash that destroyed their home. She was buried under the rubble for days, which gave her lifelong claustrophobia. She survived by becoming a skilled pickpocket and thief on the streets of Cairo, where she met Professor Xavier for the first time. He sensed her mutant potential but did not reveal it to her.
– Storm left Cairo and wandered across Africa, where she was worshipped as a goddess by various tribes because of her ability to bring rain and end droughts. She also met a young T’Challa, the future Black Panther and king of Wakanda, and they fell in love. However, circumstances separated them, and they did not reunite until years later.
– Storm joined the X-Men and became one of their most prominent and respected members. She formed close friendships with Jean Grey, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Kitty Pryde. She also developed a rivalry with Cyclops for the team’s leadership, which she eventually won in a duel. Storm was a capable and charismatic leader, guiding the X-Men through many challenges and crises.
– Storm underwent several changes in her appearance and personality over the years. She shaved her head and adopted a punk rock style after being influenced by Yukio, a Japanese ninja, and ally of Wolverine. She also lost her powers temporarily after being shot by a device created by Forge, a mutant inventor and love interest. She regained her powers with the help of Loki, the Norse god of mischief, who tried to manipulate her into becoming his goddess.
– Storm married T’Challa in a lavish ceremony in Wakanda, becoming his queen consort and the ruler of the most advanced nation on Earth. She also joined the Avengers as a representative of Wakanda. However, their marriage was annulled after the Avengers vs. X-Men conflict, where they found themselves on opposite sides.
