Night Thrasher is a superhero who first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1989. He founded and led the New Warriors, a team of young heroes who fight crime and injustice. He is also a skilled martial artist, inventor, and businessman who uses his wealth and resources to support his crusade against evil.
Night Thrasher’s real name is Dwayne Taylor, and he was born into a wealthy family that owned the Taylor Foundation, a philanthropic organization. When he was a child, his parents were killed by gunmen in an apparent robbery. Dwayne swore to avenge their deaths and dedicated his life to fighting crime.
He was raised by his father’s friend, Andrew Chord, a former military sergeant, and Tai, an elderly housekeeper with a mysterious connection to his family. They trained him in various martial arts and helped him create his Night Thrasher persona, outfitting him with a high-tech suit of armor and weapons.
Dwayne also developed a passion for skateboarding, which he incorporated into his fighting style. He used a specially designed skateboard that could attach to his back and be used as a shield or a weapon.
Night Thrasher’s first outing as a vigilante was when he met Midnight’s Fire and Silhouette, two siblings fighting crime in their way. They became allies and friends, and Dwayne fell in love with Silhouette. However, their partnership ended tragically when the police shot Silhouette during a raid on a gun-running operation. Dwayne blamed himself for her injury and thought she was dead.
He formed his team of young heroes to have more backup and support. He recruited Nova, Marvel Boy, Firestar, Namorita, and Speedball and named them the New Warriors. They fought against various threats, such as Terrax, Psionex, the Mad Thinker, and the Punisher.
Dwayne also discovered that his parent’s death was not a random act of violence but part of a larger conspiracy involving his family’s history and the Taylor Foundation. He learned that his parents were part of a secret cult called the Dragon’s Breadth, which sought to harness the power of an ancient mystical force called the Well of All Things. They were killed by Tai, the cult leader, who had manipulated Dwayne’s life since he was born.
Tai wanted to use Dwayne and the other members of the New Warriors, who were all descendants of the cult’s original members, as sacrifices to unleash the Well’s power. She also revealed that Silhouette was still alive but crippled and that she was Dwayne’s half-sister. Dwayne and the New Warriors managed to stop Tai’s plan and free themselves from her influence.
Night Thrasher continued to lead the New Warriors through many adventures and challenges. He also became more involved in his business affairs, taking over the Taylor Foundation and reforming it into a more ethical and transparent organization. He also founded the Taylor Foundation School for Gifted Youngsters, which provided education and training for young mutants.
He also rekindled his relationship with Silhouette, who had regained her ability to walk thanks to her mutant power of shadow teleportation. They became partners in crime fighting and romance.
Night Thrasher also faced some personal tragedies, such as the death of his adoptive brother Bandit, who was Donyell Taylor, another son of his father, from an affair. He also lost his mentor Chord, who sacrificed himself to save Dwayne from an assassin.
Night Thrasher also had conflicts with his teammates, such as when he clashed with Nova over leadership issues or left the team temporarily after disagreeing with their methods. He also had rivalries with heroes such as Iron Man, Daredevil, and Moon Knight.
Night Thrasher has appeared in various media outside of comics. He was featured in the animated series Marvel Super Hero Squad Show as a guest star. He also appeared in several video games, such as Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, Marvel: Avengers Alliance, Marvel Contest of Champions, and Marvel Realm of Champions.
He is also set to appear in an upcoming live-action series based on The New Warriors, which will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jeremy Tardy will play him.
